Joan Krikava - An incredible Girl Scout leader

Joan Krikava is a caring and compassionate physician whose leadership has facilitated continued improvement in healthcare services. In her work, she inspires nurses, therapists, and other staff to do their very best for each patient and counsel families through difficult health situations.

Her caring, compassionate, and inspiring nature also makes her an incredible Girl Scout leader. Actively serving Girl Scouts for over 20 years (including 12 years of guiding a troop through their Silver and Gold Awards), Joan recently decided to help lead a younger troop. Besides leading troops, she has served as New Ulm Service Unit Manager and secretary of the Girl Scouts River Valleys Board of Directors.

Since service and planning are primary themes, her troops take on many adventures including Girl Scout camp, canoeing, troop campouts and service projects. She has traveled with girls to many Minnesota destinations as well as Savannah, Chicago, London, and Paris.

Over the years, Joan has dedicated a lot of energy to planning activities to keep older girls involved in Girl Scouts. She considers helping girls develop into strong, confident women with the skills to pursue careers, achieve goals and fully experience life to be one of her greatest accomplishments and a source of much personal satisfaction.

Joan supports Girl Scouts through monthly because it’s a convenient way to ensure consistent support that works with her family’s budget. Girl Scouts River Valleys is especially important to Joan, because it serves girls in her area and is strongly committed to providing an inclusive environment where girls develop the skills they need to become our future leaders.
